On February 29, 2020, specialists from the “Fate and Hope” institution visited the House of Mary of Mercy (a shelter for the homeless), which is located in the village of Aleksandrovka, Shchuchinsky District, Grodno Region.
The initiative to create a shelter belongs to Alexei Shchedrov, brother of the Community of Brothers Missionaries of Charity of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The House of Mary of Mercy was opened on December 1, 2011. People applying to the shelter are provided with housing, food, necessary care and treatment, which is carried out by Alex himself, a medical assistant by profession. Together with the Grodno State Institution “House for a night stay for people without a fixed place of residence” (230003, Grodno, Karsky St., 29), residents of the House of Mercy are assisting in the preparation of lost documents, old age or disability pensions. People of working age are assisted in finding employment with housing.
Currently, there are 5 people in the House of Mary of Mercy. They got shelter here until they resolved issues with paperwork and permanent housing. One of the living men has 2 disability groups. Homeless people are kept in the House of Mary of Mercy through donations and sponsorship.
From the “Destiny and Hope” institution, food products, hygiene products, second-hand clothes and shoes were transferred to the shelter.
