Children's Day is celebrated annually on June 1. This is one of the oldest international holidays, which was established in 1949, and has been celebrated all over the world since 1950.
Childhood is a holistic and unique period of life. However, children, being the most vulnerable part of society due to their little life experience and dependence on parents, do not have a real opportunity to protect their lives and rights as effectively as adults do. Children's Day is held to draw attention to the observance of children's rights to freedom of opinion, education, protection against violence and the right to life. Parents, like the state, must recognize and respect the rights and freedoms of children. Children's problems concern all adults, regardless of social status, age, and material security. Therefore, the holiday of children is supported by many state and public organizations, as well as just caring people. Many charity events are timed to this day.
According to official figures in Belarus by the end of 2019, there are more than 1,869 thousand children under the age of 18. More than 18 thousand are children without parental care. 83% of them are social orphans (having parents, but left without their care), 16% are biological (orphans). More than 2 thousand children are in boarding schools.
On June 1, the team of the “Fate and Hope” institution carried out a charity event and donated personal protective equipment, hygiene products and fruit to the “Orphanage for disabled children with special needs” (Novinki).
